IZANAMI is one of the deities in Japanese mythology.
She and her husband IZANAKI(or IZANAGI) were the first couple in Japan.
They are seen as an Adam-and-Eve-like pair in Japanese mythology.

The two stirred the muddy earth with a spear and created Onogoro Island, located in what is now Hyogo prefecture.
They gave birth to the Japanese archipelago and created various deities—
deities of dwellings, the sea, mountains, ships, fire, and more.
When IZANAMI gave birth to the fire deity (Hino-Kagutsushi), she was fatally burned and died.
Her husband, IZANAKI, deeply grieving, followed his beloved wife to the Land of the Dead(YOMI).
However, upon seeing that IZANAMI had transformed into a monstrous figure, he was horrified and fled.
He sealed the entrance between the land of the living and the land of the dead with a massive boulder.
